The Incredible Edible Network is a movement started in Todmorden, north of Manchester in 2008 and is now spreading all around the World, including in Spain, where there are projects in Barcelona, Andalucia, Madrid and the North of Spain. The idea is by refocusing on food, communities can come together to help address some of the core issues that are facing our World today. Projects include:
- planting community areas with vegetables and fruit trees, the food being available for anyone to pick. Vegetables and herb gardens have been planted on train stations, on university campuses and outside police stations, to name a few.
- establishing vegetable patches and chicken coops in schools which are tended by the children to teach sustainability and a greater connection to nature. The food is then harvested and used directly for preparing school dinners.
- encouraging local growing and cultivating, the local economy and education projects
